Approximately 10%-15% of babies born in the United States will be admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). In the NICU, human milk is considered an important medicine; more mother’s milk equals better infant health outcomes. Mothers of sick infants have unique challenges and require specific support, education, and breastfeeding products.
CLS’s program has been developed to support mothers through the hospitalization, transition home, and throughout the first year of the baby’s life. Pairing mothers with a NICU-experienced RN/IBCLC who will provide her with telephonic and virtual visits allows a relationship to develop. This continuity of care is very beneficial to a mother-baby dyad, and can improve health outcomes and reduce health care costs. CLS will seamlessly integrate rental of a hospital grade breast pump and other clinically required equipment.
